Some Blessings from Psalm 56

Home > News & Events > Some Blessings from Psalm 56

I try to usually read at least one Psalm per day along with my other Bible reading.  This morning the Lord especially spoke to my heart and encouraged me with a number of verses from Psalm 56, a Psalm of David.  “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (v. 3).   There have been numerous times that fear has entered my heart during these weeks and months of the surgery for removing the cancerous tumor in my head on January 3, the remaining cancer that will now be treated with radiation and chemo, the radiation treatment itself, whether or not it will be effective, the things that could go wrong and damage that may occur as a result of radiation and etc., etc., etc.!  My natural tendency is to dwell on the fear and not on the Lord.  David did not say, “What time I am afraid, I will get discouraged . . . worry . . . complain to others . . . ”  You get the idea.  I realize over and over that I must trust the Lord during those times when fear invades my heart, for He is trustworthy and He cares for me!  I can lean on Him and cast all my care upon Him.

In the very next verse he writes, “In God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”  My fear and your fear can always be traced back to a lack of trust, faith, confidence in the person and work of our Lord.  There are a number of other verses, but let me just share the last part of verse 9: “God is for me.”  What a blessing indeed–to know that God is for me!  That reminds me of:  “If God be for us, who can be against us?  He that spared not his oown Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” –Romans 8:31, 32

God is so good to continually remind us of His care and love and faithfulness if we will just take the time each day to search His Word for the golden treasure of His promises!
